Ulug Khurtuyakh-Tas is the name of honored Khakass goddess having look of three-meter high stone stela, exhibited in the museum. Archaeologists say the stela was installed at its place around 4 to 6 thousand years ago allegedly in a zone of geological rupture with mysterious and powerful emanation that does not correlates to neither radioactive nor electromagnetic fields. Researchers cannot still understand the mystery of this emanation. Nowadays Ulug Khurtuyakh-Tas stela serves as one of the most honored pilgrimage shrines in the region of Khakassia. The stela resembles silhouette of a woman with face, breast and rotund belly, its traditional name Ulug Khurtuyakh-Tas means “great stone old woman”. Traditional Khakass beliefs followers make rituals here on a regular basis. The goddess is believed to be protector of the motherhood, aide for pregnant and childless women. The object is visited by thousands of tourists each year.
